 The Oil Technologists' Association of India (OTAI), founded in 1943 is a premier organization of technologists, research chemists, managers, engineers and industrialists working for the production, processing and research on oilseeds, oils, surfactants and allied products. The Association functions through five autonomous zones. The activities of the zones and the Central Committees are coordinated by the OTAI head quarter at Harcourt Butler Technological Institute, Kanpur.
The foremost aim of the Association is to promote advancement of the knowledge in the fields of chemistry and technology of oils, fats, surfactants and related products. It also endeavors all-round rational and economic development of the oils and fats resources of the country and their utilization. The Association publishes a quarterly journal, the Journal of the Oil Technologists' Association of India, which is of international repute.
The Oil Technologists' Association of India, Western Zone (OTAI-WZ) was established in 1960 under the leadership of late Prof. J. G. Kane. The OTAI-WZ has played an active role in furthering the objectives of the Association from inception. The zone has organized 20 refresher courses and 29 seminars on national and international scale from 1968. The OTAI on completion of 50 years of its illustrious activities celebrated its Golden Jubilee by organizing an International Seminar and Exposition in 1995 at Mumbai. The last National Seminar on “Newer Business Trends in Oleochemicals” was held at Mumbai on June 25, 2003.
The OTAI-WZ owes its present eminent position to the inspiring leadership and guidance of the distinguished personalities who served as its Patrons & Presidents, namely late Prof. J. G. Kane, late Dr. B. P. Godrej, Prof. D. Rebello, Dr. C. B. Khanpara, late Dr. S. M. Patel, Prof. V. V. R. Subrahmanyam, Mr. N. B. Godrej, Mr. K. V. Mariwala, Dr. K. S. Holla, Dr. A. D. Shitole, Dr. V.
